New BlogEngine Theme - Gluttony from the WPDesigner

Monday, 31 December 2007 16:38 by jf26028

GravityCube-Gluttony I tend to browse wordpress themes from time to time for two reasons. First, there are zillions of them, and second, there is some really good work going on in that space. With wordpress being as popular as it is, it draws some of the best designers, I guess.

While looking around, I stumbled on the WPDesigner. I just like this guy's style. His Jello Wala, Digg 3 Column, and Wpdesigner5 are among my favorites, but I really liked Gluttony with a preview here. The theme is a bit flashy for my taste, but it just looks really good. So, I took the time to port it to BlogEngine.net not so much for my site, but just to see what it takes to convert a wordpress theme to BlogEngine. All in all, it was actually pretty easy. The theme video from the videos site on the BlogEngine site is more than enough to guide you through the process.

The conversion of the theme is imperfect, and some things just don't look right, most notably, the search box in the upper left. But, I will get to those sooner or later, but I'm in a bit of a time crunch right now. You can download the BlogEngine version and finish it up yourself, if you like. Or, check out the preview.

If you happen to like the theme, drop Small Potato a note and let him know, but don't ask him for any help with the BlogEngine version.

Rich,

The theme should work fine on both versions. I built it on 1.3, but uploaded it to 1.2, and I havent seen any issues with either. If you have any problems, I would like to hear about it.

Hello Jesse,

Thank you for the lovely theme. It indeed fit to my needs better.

However, I would ideally like to show the sidebar on the right side instead since reading posts is a bit more difficult for the reader. I've almost managed to do it however when I click a post the sidebar jumps to the botton.

I have tried hard to figure out what settings I have to change in css to sort this out.

Can you help?

Thank you in advance

I wonder if you could change the behavior of inline images - right now they "eat" into the bottom section of links under each article.

For example, if you put just one or two lines of text and then put an image which is about 300 pixels high i.e.
foo bar

This kind of destroys the layout of the page unless I add extra white space within the text using many
nbsp;
to make it match the same height of the image.

Is it possible to change the theme so that it automatically handles this properly?

thank you so much - btw, this is my absolute favorite theme of them all Smile

thanks Jesse, looking forward to that. FYI, I have found that many of the blogengine.net themes seem to have the same problem, although not all. It maybe something inherent to the default template from which themes are based? (sorry I am not very technical enough to figure out where the problem is...)
